The Journey of Swift Heath

In 2004, this beautiful garden, then named Evermore, was designed and built from muddy cow paddocks on a gently sloping hillside by Cheryl, who is a horticulturist and her husband Reg.

The transformation of the land is a testament to their vision and dedication.  What started as a blank canvas has since evolved into the most stunning garden, that provides a hidden bird sanctuary, echoing the beauty and tranquility of the Jumbunna hillside, with panoramic views of the Strzelecki Ranges.

Our journey with this property began in July 2020 when my wife Christine and I purchased it and named it Swift Heath. We both have ancestral ties to Ireland, but the name reflects Christine's deep ancestral ties to the renowned Irish satirist, Jonathan Swift, who is famously known for his work, "Gulliver's Travels."

The rolling green hills of Jumbunna remind us of Ireland, and it felt only fitting to honor our heritage through the names and features of our garden.

During our time here, we have worked hard redesigning areas and adding new features in the garden. To maintain our connection and love for Ireland, Jonathan Swift, and Jumbunna, we have carefully named key features of the garden. Each name holds a special significance, strengthening our bond with the land and history.

We have been so fortunate to form a lasting and close friendship with Reg and Cheryl. It is always an exciting time when they visit to see what we have done in the garden.

Ironically, one of our favorite old-time book and films is "The Secret Garden." and now, having our own secret garden, feels like a dream come true!

Warm regards, Paul and Christine.
